The 2021 Toyota Sienna hybrid minivan with VMI’s lowered floor conversion brings accessibility, fuel efficiency, and all-wheel drive capabilities.
Phoenix, Arizona (May 18, 2021) – Vantage Mobility International (VMI), a leading manufacturer of wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAV), launched the industry’s first-ever wheelchair accessible minivan featuring the performance and reliability of all-wheel drive. Built on the 2021 Toyota Sienna Hybrid chassis, the VMI Toyota introduces new possibilities to the wheelchair user community to drive with greater traction and control in a variety of environments, even in inclement weather conditions.
The all-wheel-drive capability achieved without altering the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) suspension on a lowered floor vehicle is a unique engineering achievement in the mobility industry. By preserving the original suspension system, vehicle owners will enjoy unmatched ride, maneuverability, and performance without sacrificing accessibility.
Another first with the new VMI Toyota is the patented wheel well cover design. This design feature is in response to customer feedback for an accessible van that provided a look and feel that more closely resembled an unconverted vehicle. The wheel well covers reduce the gap commonly seen with wheelchair vans and create a sleek OEM look while improving the aerodynamics.
The voice of the customer is at the heart of every innovation brought to life at VMI. The company continues its mission to deliver products that enable customers to attain mobility independence without compromising style, comfort, convenience, or safety. The VMI Toyota is packed with other exclusive features, such as its patented ParkSmart obstruction alert and interchangeable front seats that are built into the vehicle as standard. The all-wheel-drive capability, coupled with solutions like these, provides customers with maximum accessibility and a superior driving experience.
“We’re building more than just a mode of transportation for customers. Our accessible vehicles create a gateway to independent mobility while providing customers with robust features that increase convenience, maintain safety, and heighten the riding experience,” said Mark Shaughnessy, CEO of Vantage Mobility International. “As a leader in the mobility industry, we must keep stretching our abilities to design products that are both functional and have attributes that our customers deserve for optimum vehicle ownership.”
The 2021 VMI Toyota Sienna Hybrid is available as front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Additional features include the Northstar® powered in-floor ramp, Access360™, Sure Deploy® back-up ramp system, vehicle frame construction with Galvanneal steel, and e-coating to mitigate rust (and enable the industry-best 7-year corrosion warranty), and LED interior lighting. New conversion purchases come with a one-year complimentary Mobility Roadside Assistance membership that provides customers with assurance that help is on the way, including a paratransit ride, if their vehicle must be towed for service.
