This past weekend, Toyota Mobility invited VMI to display our Access360 Northstar conversion on the Toyota Sienna in their booth at the Atlanta Abilities Expo. Abilities Expo is about bringing necessary products and services together under one roof for the community of people with disabilities, their families, caregivers, seniors and healthcare professionals. It’s about introducing opportunities that can enrich your life…especially ones that you never knew were out there.
The three day expo is a great blend of education, entertainment, assistance and fun! Some of the events held were power soccer demo, service dog demonstrations and the Walk and Roll dance team which always draw a great crowd, just to name a few.
Some of the free workshops included information about “How to select the right accessible vehicle for you”, “The parent’s journey; Ideas for celebrating life with your child” and “How to fund assistive technology”.
On display was everything from information on driver rehabilitation specialists and local organizations to large displays of wheelchairs and wheelchair accessible vans. Here are just a few organizations that had information about their organization:
ADED is an organization that helps people with disabilities drive again. Driver rehabilitation specialists work with drivers of all ages and abilities for independent transportation. ADED driver rehabilitation specialists conduct a thorough evaluation of your abilities and limitations, offer driver remediation or training and work closely with your mobility equipment dealer when the time comes to modify your vehicle.
3 E Love is a social entrepreneurship seeking to change societal perception of people with disabilities and their abilities through clothing, education and art.
Fodac or friends of disabled adults and children provides home medical equipment at little or no cost to those in need. These items include wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds, canes, crutches, etc. They are able to provide equipment to people in the Atlanta area as a result of donations from individuals and relationships with home medical equipment vendors.
We always enjoy showing off our products and meeting new friends. Getting kids to wheel up into the driver’s seat of our wheelchair vans is more fun than you can imagine! Seeing those smiles is priceless.
While the Abilities Expo does not travel to every city, there may be something similar in your community. You can always contact a local mobility equipment dealer by you to see if there are any events of this nature in your area in the near future. To find a local mobility equipment dealer, click on our Dealer Locator and enter in your zip code.
